By the end of January 2015, federal public debt reached 387.179 billion euros, reported the Finance ministry on Monday. The total net debt of the federal state (gross debt, after deducting financial investments and investment portfolios) reached 387.879 billion euros, which represents an increase of 3.425 billion euros compared to the previous month.
At the end of January 2015, mid- and long-term debt stood at 90.6% of outstanding debt issued or written down by the federal state, against 91.6% at the end of January 2014. In euros the debt represented 99.7% of this outstanding volume, the same figure as a year ago.
The public debt may vary considerably from one month to the next. Therefore, monthly variations do not truly reflect the global annual trend, points out the treasury.
