Insurers have never refused as many “risky” drivers

Insurance companies have refused to insure or stopped insuring 29,340 drivers, as they caused too many accidents. This is according to statistics from the Tarification office, the Flemish press reported on Wednesday. It’s where motorists who can’t get insured, or only at a very high price, end up. In 2014, the Tarification office received 30,000 requests, 6,500 and 11,000 more than in 2013 and 2012. This is an increase of around 60%.

The consumer’s organisation Test-Achats says the situation is worrying and “arbitrary for some insurers”.  It criticises the very real risk of drivers being shown the door by big insurance companies when they are involved in an accident, even if they are not responsible.
