Men who find themselves victims of extreme violence within their family will be able to go to a refuge in the Malines region as of next month. This type of institution has existed for Belgian women for a long time, but this is the first one for men, De Morgen reported on Thursday. One man in 20 was a victim of domestic violence last year, compared to one in 10 women. This is according to statistics from the Steunpunt Algemeen Welzijnswerk. Men can be victims of violence from their partner, but also from other members of their family.
