Big fall in prices of sea view apartments

The price of apartments on the dyke has fallen by 6% in a year, various daily papers reported on Tuesday. In 2014, the average price of an apartment with a view of the North Sea was 315,000 euros, compared to 335,000 the year before, according to figures from the Belgian Notary.

Even though they are in a nice location, these apartments are often old, badly insulated and the upkeep is costly, explains Bart Van Opstal from the Notary federation. He says buyers prefer new apartments, even if you can’t see the sea from them.

Apartments on the dyke still cost 21% more than the average apartment on the Belgian coast.
