Clash of SNCB titans: CEO accuses president of corruption

According to recent articles in the press, there is tension at the highest levels of the SNCB as CEO Jo Cornu and its president Jean-Claude Fontinoy tear strips off one another. In a letter the CEO sent to the president and which De Morgen referred to on Friday, Jo Cornu accused Jean-Claude Fontinoy of 'dodgy dealings' in the awarding of study contracts. He also insinuated Fontinoy was guilty of corrupt practices during a real estate transaction in India.

On Thursday the daily L'Echo had already revealed that Mr. Cornu had sent a letter several pages long to Mr. Fontinoy complaining about his meddling in the daily running of the business. "Yet again it appears you are getting involved in the daily running of SNCB. You are forcing decisions on the board, the financial implications of which have not been investigated", wrote the CEO to Mr. Fontenoy in an email De Morgen was given access to and which minister for Public Enterprises Jacqueline Galant (MR) was cc'd into.

The SNCB president also allegedly sent a letter to the responsible minister.
