Several hundred people demonstrate against the Huy nuclear center

Several hundred demonstrators left the Huy centre (Liège province) on Sunday, in the middle of the afternoon. They were headed towards the Tihange nuclear centre. They were calling for the closures of the Tihange 2 and Doel 3 reactors, a spokesman for the organisation said. The demonstrators, who police estimate numbered around 400, left the avenue Delchambre in Huy around 2.30pm. They headed towards the Tihange nuclear centre.

A majority of the participants were German-speaking, from Germany or connected cantons. Among the politicians present were the European MP Klaus Buchner, from the Green party, and the federal MPs Jean-Marc Nollet (Ecolo) and Raoul Hedebouw (PTB). “The main thing we are asking for is the immediate definitive closures of the Tihange 2 and Doel 3 nuclear centres”, explains Léo Tubba, spokesman for the association Nuclear-Stop.
