Over 30,000 drivers monitored in Belgium on Thursday, as part of European operation

Belgian traffic police mobile cameras monitored 30,734 car drivers on Thursday between 6:00am and midnight, leading to 8 withdrawals of driving licences, announced federal police authorities on Friday. Belgium was taking part in a pan-European operation against speeding, coordinated in 21 countries by TIPSOL, the European network of traffic police. Out of approximately 30,000 vehicles monitored, 1,222 were given immediate tickets and fines by policemen. Furthermore, the 50 officers seconded for this operation pulled over 66 vehicles, and withdrew 8 driving licences. Fixed radar monitoring meanwhile led to 506 additional fines.

A new round of speed checks should take place on April 23rd throughout the country, but this time it will only be a national initiative.
