Inflation positive for the first time in 6 months

In April, inflation went from -0.40 to 0.29%, moving into positive figures for the first time in 6 months. The health index went from 0.39 points to 101.2 points, the Economy SPF announced on Wednesday. This high increase is “mainly due to the dissipation of the effect a reduction in VAT on electricity (reduced from 21% to 6% in April 2014) had on inflation. The increase in vegetable prices at the start of a new season also played a role”, say the authorities.

The consumption price index also rose in April, to 100.70 points, an increase of 0.38%. Inflation based on the health index went from -0.06% to 0.68%.

Finally, the pivot-index for public function and social allocations, fixed at 101.2 points, did not overrun this month. The last overrun was in November 2012.
