A new concept, a travelling restaurant, called “Dinner on the road”, will be officially launched in Brussels on October 29th, 2015. Thought up by the creators of “Dinner in the sky”, Stefan Kerkhofs and David Ghysels, the gastronomic experience will take place in a futuristic vehicle surrounded by glass, with a professional kitchen and a digital table seating up to 16 guests. According to its creators, it is the first travelling restaurant in the world. “With ‘Dinner on the road’, we aim to offer people both a very original culinary experience and a vision of the future,” explains David Ghysels in a press release. “‘Dinner on the road’ is not simply one more pop-up restaurant; it will pick people up at home or wherever they are and drop them off wherever they wish, to take in a beautiful view or monument, or at a hotel or their workplace.”
The project aims to be eco-friendly, with the vehicles using 25% less fuel than equivalent vehicles. “The goal for 2020 is to create a fully electric vehicle.” It has so far been exported to over 50 countries around the world, including more recently Norway, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.
The 2 businessmen wish to repeat their success story and take “Dinner on the road” onto the international circuit. They will promote the project on 2 levels: the vehicle will be rented out at the European level, and sold at the international level. Italy and Saudi Arabia have already shown some interest, they add, and they hope to explore Route 66, la Cappadoce, the Valley of the Kings, the Cote d’Azur, Tuscan vineyards and Singapore’s Orchard Road to mention but a few. The vehicle is aimed at all audiences and events (family celebrations, get-togethers among friends, meetings and board meetings, brainstorming sessions, product launches…).
