The Belgian tax department is looking for Uber drivers in the Netherlands

The State Secretaries for Social Fraud (Bart Tommelein) and Tax (Elke Sleurs) have asked their Dutch counterpart to hand over all information relating to drivers that work for Uber in Belgium. This was revealed by La Libre Belgique on Tuesday. Uber Belgium is an “empty shell”, and everything to do with the operation in Belgium goes though the Dutch base. “This is why it’s so difficult for the tax inspectors to do their investigation in Belgium. It makes the Belgian driver’s income difficult to trace”, La Libre Belgique reported.

At the request of the ISI, Dutch authorities made two surprise visits to the Uber base in Amsterdam. The aim was to seize data and invoices concerning drivers operating in Belgium.
