A young scout dies after games at the recreational area in Bornem

A young 17 year old scout from Puurs, who was taking part in games with his unit at the Breeven recreational area at Bornem, was found lifeless in one of the park’s ponds. He was taken to Edegem hospital in a critical condition. He died in the early hours of Monday morning, the Bornem commune has said. The young man went missing Sunday lunchtime, during or just after a game with the local scouts at the Breeven recreational area. The scouts found him at the edge of a pond after they noticed he was missing, according to the Flanders Scouts and Guides.
They immediately called the emergency services, who treated him at the edge of the pond. He was transported to Edegem hospital, but passed away early on Monday morning. The Prosecutor’s office now has to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
