The Royal couple welcomed by the public at l’Ancienne Belgique

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were greeted with long applause when they arrived at l’Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. The monarchs had come to see a concert by Girls in Hawaii and Intergalactic Lovers, two pop-rock groups from Wallonia and Flanders respectively.  The Flemish Culture Minister Sven Gatz, the Director General of AB Dirk De Clippeleir and Brussels mayor Yvan Meyer waited for Philippe and Mathilde on the Boulevard Anspach.

When they arrived at the entrance hall of the Brussels establishment, the King and Queen were welcomed by a delegation of AB staff.  They were then conducted to the concert room, where the public also gave them a warm welcome.

During the national hymn, played according to a personal interpretation by guitarist Mauro Pawlowski, fans had their eyes fixed on the gallery; the royals were able to enjoy the concert from there. They were accompanied by ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from around a hundred countries.

The invitation came from l’Ancienne Belgique. The concert marked the end of the festivities for its 35th anniversary.

During the interval, the monarchs went backstage to congratulate the artists.
