Belgocontrol power cut – Delays still expected over the next few days

Traffic in Belgian airspace will be limited to 75% over the next few days. Passengers must therefore expect long delays at Brussels Airport, the Airport and Belgocontrol warned on Wednesday evening. This was after a meeting with Transport Minister Jacqueline Galant. 75% of air traffic will be handled by two external generators, says the Belgocontrol spokesman Dominque Dehaene. She thinks this situation will last for a few days.

In Brussels Airport, long delays are expected. “At the busiest times, airspace capacity will be too low. Departures will be better spread out over the day. That means that delays of one or two hours are to be expected”, says Brussels Airport spokesman Nathalie Van Impetoe.

There was still a possibility of cancelations on Thursday, but for capacity problems, not organisational reasons.

At Brussels Airport, around 400 beds have been provided for waiting passengers.
