Half of restaurants fail inspections due to hygiene problems

Half of take away restaurants do not meet hygiene standards. 80% of the 53,663 establishments tested over the last five years failed inspections by the Federal Agency for Food Safety (AFSCA) for this reason, according to Minister Willy Borsus (MR). He spoke about it when he replied to a Parliamentary question by New Flemish Alliance MP Els Van Hoof. De Morgen and Het Laaste Nieuws reported on the figures on Saturday. There have been multiple infractions: fish and meat kept in the same refrigerator, out of date products, dirty pots and pans, bad personal hygiene, etc. It can also mean small administrative errors (wrongly filled out forms).

From the 30th of June, AFSCA will publish the reports on the inspections and the conclusions on their website.
