On Sunday, the Walloon water society (SWDE) said there had been a large increase in water consumption over the last two days, due to the heat. Alternative measures have been employed in the Namur, Liège and Luxembourg provinces, to fill up the reservoirs faster. The SWDE has been paying particular attention to the situation in around a dozen Walloon communes, “where the difference in the amount of water going in and going out could lead to a lack of water”. This particularly applies to Vielsalm, Lierneux, Montzen, Hamois and Gesves in the East and South of Belgium, and Mont de L’Enclus in the Hainaut.  “A water truck filling up the reservoirs meant we are able to cope with the increased consumption, so customers didn’t suffer”, the company has said. Around 50 people who are supplied by the Vielsalm Petit-Thiers reservoir had problems, as it is difficult to access that particular reservoir. It took “a few hours to get the situation under control”.

The SWDE teams dealt with around dozen incidents (leaks, valves) across the network. “With the exception of Cortil-Noirmont, these interventions did not affect customers”.
