Over 5,000 Muslims expected at Charleroi Expo to mark end of Ramadan

The end of Ramadan will be celebrated by 5,000 Muslims in 2 halls at Charleroi Expo this weekend. The event is an initiative by authorities from 5 mosques in the Charleroi region. Every year the end of Ramadan sees prayer meetings in mosques but this time authorities in charge of 5 Charleroi region mosques chose to find a common site where they could gather. The request was made to Charleroi Expo managers, who will rent out 2 halls in the building to the worshippers.

The organiser adds however that it is too soon to say whether the festivities will take place on Friday or Saturday. The decision as to when Ramadan ends is to be made by the Belgian Muslim Executive based on the lunar calendar on Thursday evening.

Some 5,000 worshippers, mostly from Charleroi, are expected to travel to the site, some possibly from other regions as well, to pray, preach, and celebrate Aid-el-Fitr.
