The boy who was buried in the sand on the Belgian coast has died

The 14 year old boy who was buried in the sand for quarter of an hour at Oostduinkerke last week died from his injuries on Saturday morning. He was being cared for at the Ghent University hospital (UZ Ghent), De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad revealed on Monday. The high amount of pressure put on the young boy’s brain while he was trapped proved to be too much. The boy, called Benjamin, was from Profondeville, in the Namur Province. He was on holiday with his family in Oostduinkerke at the time of the accident.

On the 11h of July, he was digging deep tunnels in the dunes with his little brother. His metre and a half deep tunnel suddenly collapsed on him. Passers-by and the emergency services immediately started trying to get him out, but it took them a quarter of an hour.
