The Belgian coast welcomed 370,000 day-trippers over the weekend preceding the Fête Nationale, reveals Westtoer, the West Flanders tourist information office, on Wednesday. Westtoer is happy with this result over a long weekend, even if better figures could have been achieved. According to the tourist information office, the SACT strike action affected tourism on the coast. 700,000 tourists headed for the seaside on Saturday, fewer than on a normal Saturday. The changeable weather forecast also had an impact.
Tuesday saw a good number of tourists, 150,000 day-trippers to be precise, 15% of which were from outside Belgium, plus 280,000 holiday-makers currently staying on the coast. Room occupancy in some hotels was over 90%.
