A commercial plane touched down at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) in Gosselies without its landing gear on Tuesday evening. There were no casualties, but six flights had to be diverted to Zaventem, so the debris could be cleared away. The pilot of a tourist plane touched down on the BSCA airstrip without landing gear, Le Soir’s internet site said. No-one was injured, but there was debris all over the tarmac, which led to the airstrip being closed from 8.25pm to 9.54pm.
When contacted by VTM, Belgocontrol confirmed that six flights from Madrid, Fez, Manchester, Budapest, Palma in Majorca and Marseille, which were supposed to land in Charleroi, were diverted to Zaventem. One flight was able to land at BSCA at the very end of the evening. The passengers of the five other flights were put on a bus. The incident created a three hour delay, according to Vincent Grassa, the BSCA spokesman.
