Police gave out 235 fines for compensation fraud in 2014. That’s a 73% increase compared to the year before, the Sudpresse papers reported on Tuesday. The scam is “as old as insurance itself”, said François de Clippele, the spokesman for Assuralia. Fraudsters are using more and more ruses against insurance companies.
The penal code attributes sentences of up to 5 years in prison and a 15,000 fine for this type of infraction.
