Armed attack on Thalys train – Charles Michel goes to the Elysee to meet the people who stopped the attack on the train

Prime Minister Charles Michel was at the Elysee on Monday morning. At 9am, he met with the passengers that prevented a possible “catastrophe” on the train on Friday. He was accompanied by the French president Francois Hollande and a representative for the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Before leaving for Paris, Charles Michel said he thought it was important Belgium showed its gratitude. The train was “full of Belgian passengers, whose lives were saved”, he added.

The Prime Minister was invited to France by François Hollande. Mr Hollande will present the Legion of honour to Americans Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone, and Briton Chris Norman. The Home Affairs Minister Manuel Valls and the American ambassador to France will also attend the ceremony.

After meeting the “heroes”, Charles Michel will talk to the French president about Friday’s incident, and the measures both countries need to take to fight terrorism.
