Three people arrested for human trafficking on a ferry at Zeebrugge

The Bruges division of East Flanders prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday that Bruges investigating judge had placed three Moldavians under arrest on suspicion of human trafficking. The three men were found in Zeebrugge on a ferry to England. They were with an illegal Ukranian migrant who had forged ID papers. It is thought the three men intended to smuggle the Ukranian into the UK.

The investigating judge decided on Thursday to place the Moldavians under arrest. The West Flanders Public Prosecutor often deals with human trafficking cases. In this region, the car parks along the E40 are regularly used to hide illegal migrants in lorries headed for Calais. In late May, three other Ukranians were also arrested for trying to smuggle 8 illegal migrants between Nieuport and the UK, on a sailing boat.
