Asylum seekers – Red Cross also broadens its support scheme

The Red Cross has been organising daily rounds with volunteers every evening to hand out food, beverages, clothing, and blankets to migrants reaching Belgium, since August 25th. Volunteers working in the field for 10 days were able to assist over a thousand people including many children. They handed out over 1,000 sandwiches, 128 litres of soup and 650 bottles of water.

“Many members of the public have also come out in force to help and we have been gifted ample food and clothes,” pointed out the Red Cross.

The daily rounds will continue until September 16th and an assessment will then take place.

The NGO made available 1,500 extra emergency accommodation by September 1st, and 500 more are scheduled in coming weeks.
