Vilvorde hit-and-run: injured 12-year-old girl dies

The 12-year-old girl who was knocked down in a hit-and-run in Vilvorde on Wednesday, died from her injuries on Wednesday evening. The driver of the car is still at large and police are trying to track him down, announced Hal-Vilvorde prosecutor’s office on Thursday.

The accident took place at around 12.30pm at the intersection of Rue Jean François Willems and Rue Radiatoren. The young girl was knocked down as she was crossing the road and the car drove off without stopping. The girl was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where she died later that evening.

A witness who had noticed a damaged car around the time of the accident contacted the Vilvorde-Machelen police. The witness was allegedly shown CCTV footage of the area, and the witness pointed out a BMW 5. The car’s registration plate was visible and police are now looking for the driver. An expert has been assigned by the prosecution, to determine precisely how the accident happened.
