35.8 million euros will be spent on the royal family next year, reveals media group Sudpresse on Wednesday, based on claims published on the Parliament website for the 2016 expenditure budget. This is 743,333 euros lower than the cost in 2015.
The king’s civil list will remain unchanged at 11,554,000 euros. Savings will affect mostly ministerial budgets: the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defence will see a slight reduction in their budgets.
The federal police in charge of security (of both the royal family and royal buildings) represent the largest item in the budget with 15,603,000 euros, according to Sudpresse.
