Walloon government wants to negotiate with Volkswagen

While the Flemish Government will be taking the German carmaker Volkswagen to court, the Walloon region will probably choose a more friendly agreement after it installed software to sidestep emission tests on its cars, informs the newspapers L’Echo on Wednesday. According to legal opinions commissioned by the Walloon Government, "Several offending measures were violated. Therefore, they could win their appeal." The lawyers consulted by the Executive, however, believe that there is currently a fertile ground and that the Walloon Government should prioritize negotiations with the carmaker. “Negotiations would aim to first agree on obtaining compensation for the damages caused by Volkswagen", wrote L'Echo. The Walloon Government must however first make an assessment of the financial loss generated by the carmaker’s fraud.
