The police operations carried out by police in the Brussels region resulted in 16 arrests. Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect still at large from the Paris attacks was not one of the arrests.
Several operations were carried out simultaneously on Sunday evening in Brussels, the larger ones focused in the Molenbeek commune. Other operations were carried out in Liege and Charleroi.
The security ministry asked media to no communicate during these interventions for security reasons.
The Brussels metro remains closed on Monday. Schools, universities and kindergardens in the Brussels region are also closed. Many businesses have recommended their employees to work from home.
