As a result of the current terror threat following the Paris attacks, the Royal Palace will be implementing new security measures during the king and queen’s future public events. Their schedules have been changed, revealed Palace spokesperson Pierre-Emmanuel De Bauw on Tuesday.
OCAM (Threat Assessment Coordination Body) decided to confirm the highest threat alert level (level 4) for the Brussels region on Monday. “We follow security instructions from the federal government. The Royal Palace’s security programme will adhere to threat alert level 4 in Brussels for as long as necessary,” explains Mr. De Bauw.
This means reporters wishing to follow the royal couple in their public activities will be submitted to stricter rules. Only a press card will be necessary within the Palace itself.
The royal couple’s schedule for the coming days has already been changed. Queen Mathilde was due to appear at the MAKS event in Anderlecht as first announced on Thursday but she will no longer be attending. Additionally, the queen’s involvement in the National Reading Week has been moved to Brussels-Laeken public library at the Royal Palace. Every event, trip and outing scheduled by the king and queen is looked into.
