The Walloon government has released a 2.5 million euro budget to quadruple the Walloon motorway network. “Currently, we have 102 cameras along Walloon motorways. We will renovate them, and place 200 extra cameras from summer 2016. The work should be finished by the end of 2017”, the Public transport minister Maxime Prévot told the Sudpresse papers.

The camera will cover the traffic every 10 kilometres, as well as the level crossing at each motorway. The motorway services are also equipped with cameras to make them safer. The cameras will be placed high up to give an over-all view.

The camera will also have an ANPR function (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), which will automatically recognise vehicle’s number plates. “These cameras will not only make roads safer, but also improve general security”, said Minister Prevot.
