CPAS wary of community service

CPAS (public social services centres) are “unhappy with, reticent about, or even opposed to” community service for recipients of social integration income, reveals research requested by Willy Borsus (MR), Minister for Social Integration, and carried out by Karel de Grote College and Saint-Louis University, reports press group Mediahuis on Monday. Barely one in five CPAS supports the idea of community service, whereas one in four states it is against the project. Undecided centres (38%) also express concern.

CPAS wonder what the benefits of the system would be.

Over 70% of CPAS think community service should not be mandatory, and 60% are opposed to sanctions against those who do not take part.
