The prosecutor of Namur has announced that arson was perpetrated in the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 1:30 .m., in a Dinant apartment building, located in the city center. The fire broke out in a three-storey home, divided into several apartments. Two people, including communal councillor and former Deputy burgomaster of Dinant, Marie-Christine Vermeer, occupied the house.
Fire fighters from Dinant and Yvoir went on site to contain the fire. According to the Deputy burgomaster of Dinant, Robert Closset, the authors have forced the door of the building and set fire to five different places before fleeing by car. He also added: “The Federal Judicial Police and dogs also arrived on site on Sunday morning.” Both victims were taken to the Hospital of Dinant.
Marie-Christine Vermeer was then taken to the hospital of Neder-Over-Heembeek (which has a Burn Care Center, Ed). She suffers from burnt arms and face.
