More than 100 fines are issued per day for illegal parking in disabled spaces

A recent report suggests that on every day, an average of 108 drivers in Belgium receive a fine for having parked in a disabled parking space without a valid permit, Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Wednesday. This totals over 39,400 infractions per year, despite a "zero tolerance" policy which has been in place since 2013 in various communes around Belgium.

An average fine amounts to 110 Eur. The minister in charge of services for the disabled Elke Sleurs, from the N-VA party, recently appealed to citizens to "not make the life for disabled even more difficult." She insists that she will be working next year to minimize abuse of disabled parking spaces.
