Improved security at Brussels Airport

The number of automatic passport controls at Zaventem airport will rise from six to 24, reveal dailies De Morgen and Het Laatste Nieuws on Thursday. The new security gates will mean the identity of 46,080 Europeans flying in from outside the Schengen area will be checked every day.

When the first six gates were set up, a few technical glitches occurred, but everything has been solved, according to Olivier Van Raemdonck, spokesperson for Home Secretary Jan Jambon (N-VA).

“As well as installing the gates, we are investing in software and digital systems,” he adds. Police union VSOA (SLFP) add for their part, that the additional infrastructure will not mean less work for police officers.
