Various sites in the west and north of the Hal-Vilvoorde district are facing flooding. Emergency services in the West Brabant region reveal they had already received hundreds of calls by early on Friday afternoon, mostly for flooded cellars and basements following floods in the streets after massive rain and snow falls in the past few hours. The towns of Londerzeel, Dilbeek, Merchtem, Grimbergen, Asse, and Kapelle-op-den-Bos are affected. At the same time, several rivers and streams in Flanders have reached their warning levels and could make things worse.
This is the case with the Maalbeek in Wemmel and Grimbergen in particular. In Leeuw-St-Pierre, the Zuunbeek could rise to problematic levels, as could the Maalbeek in Lennik, the Vondelbeek in Opwijk, and the Steenvoordebeek and Hunselbeek in Ternat. Each town threatened will have taken necessary measures in the meantime, such as offering sandbags and additional staff.
In Lebbeke (East Flanders), in the Dendre valley, the municipal emergency plan has been activated. A dozen streets are partially or totally closed in the town. In Bazel, part of Kruibeke, the Bierbeek is overflowing. Several roads are closed, including part of the N419. Flooded streets are also reported in Alost, Erpe-Mere, Melsele, Tamise, and Berlare.
Several streets are closed as well in Saint-Gilles-Waes and Beveren.
