The cafe “In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst” located in the village of Eizeringen (in the municipality of Lennik, in Flemish Brabant) was voted the best cafe in the world to enjoy a beer, according to the 2015 classification on the specialist website RateBeer 2015. Seven Belgian establishments feature in the top 50 best global destinations to have a beer, or one less than last year. The Brabant cafe features in overall second place behind the Akkurat restaurant located in Stockholm in Sweden. However, it got first place in the category “Popular Cafe”.
The other six Belgian establishments featuring in the classification are the Cafe Kulminator in Antwerp (5th place), the De Heeren restaurant in Liedekerke in Flemish Brabant (15th place), the Moeder Lambic Fontainas in Brussels (21st place), the Brasserie Cantillon in Anderlecht (27th place), the Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles in Saint-Gilles (28th place) and the Brugs Beertje in Bruges (30th place).
The Nüetnigenough and the Bier Circus in Brussels, the 3 Fonteinen in Beersel and the Bierbrassserie Cambrinus in Bruges all feature in the category “Best Beer Brasserie”.
The sole Walloon establishment featuring in the classiification is Mi-Orge-Mi-Houblon in Arlon, in the category “Best Off Licence”.
The RateBeer Awards have existed since 2002.
