In 2015 the federal prosecutor opened 313 files related to terrorism, a sharp increase from the 195 in 2014. Over a period of three years, the number of terrorist files increased 600%. Meanwhile the personnel handling them did not rise.
Until 2012 the number of files related to terrorism in Belgium never reached over 100. The increase started in 2012 with the phenomenon to travel to Syria to fight.
What is striking according to the prosecutor is that “the number of judges and administrative personnel never increased during this period.”
