Fifteen people smugglers arrested for questioning since re-establishing border controls

Fifteen people smugglers were arrested in West Flanders since re-establishing Franco-Belgian border controls during the last week, reports La Libre Belgique on Monday. Several hundred asylum seekers attempting to get to Great Britain from Belgium were also arrested.

The fifteen people smugglers are suspected of human trafficking.

La Libre Belgique also indicates that several attempts directed towards setting up camps at the port area of Zeebrugge have been prevented.

The Franco-Belgian border controls were re-established after the announcement of dismantling of part of the Calais “jungle”, the Belgian authorities fearing an increase in migrant flows.
