Some 78,000 Walloon taxpayers have either received or will shortly get an tax assessment notice asking them to see to it that they pay their television licence fee. So the Sudpresse publications are reporting today (Wednesday). For some individuals who are guilty of late payment, their fee may run to 800 euros.
The Walloon government also broadcast the fast approaching TV licence tax, soon to be law. Before this measure is implemented, the Belgian Budget Minister, Christophe Lacroix, has launched a large-scale operation to recover the totals due by such taxpayers. Between the months of February and May, enforcement agents will try to sort out 78,000 cases.
Minister Lacroix hopes to increase the recovery rate to 60% owing, in particular, to the aid of 150 enforcement agents. The compulsory licence fee represents around 100 million euros within the region's budget.
