Belgium would be the second EU country to benefit the most from an “ambitious” agreement on the Transatlantic Treaty with the US, after Ireland. This is according to a study ordered by the European Commission.
The conclusion of the TTIP negotiations would increase Belgian exports by 20%. It would also help increase Belgium’s annual gross domestic product (GDP) by 1.2%. That’s 5 billion extra euros a year, according to the new study released on Friday.
The European Commission asked the consultant Ecorys to estimate the impact of an “ambitious” agreement. Their first impact study predicted a 0.5% increase in European growth per year, but it has been criticised by some of the academic world.
