Three Amour leopards, a sub-species of leopard that lives in the warm forests of Russia and China, were born in Bellewaerde on Saturday evening, the park has announced. Amour leopards are one of the most threatened species on the planet.

It is not yet known what sex the cubs are.

Bellewaerde is part of a conservation program for wild animals, and the aim is to release animals born in the zoo into their natural habitat. This program has started to bear fruit, as the number of Amour leopards living in the wild has gone from 35 in 2007 to 70 today.
