“Travel to work” distances have reduced everywhere since 2011, except within the Walloon Brabant province. This is reported today (Friday) in the Sudpresse publications and is based on a study by Acerta, the HR firm.

The Belgian average “travel to work” distance was 19 kilometres during 2015. It is in Brussels, with 14 kilometres, that the distance was shortest (15 kilometres in 2011), with 18 kilometres in Flanders (19 kilometres in 2011) and 25 kilometres in Wallonia (27 kilometres in 2011). The decline may be seen everywhere, except in Brabant which is stagnating with a figure of 25 kilometres. In Wallonia, the shortest distance is seen in the Luxembourg province (21 kilometres on average).

“The worsening of traffic jams is not due to increased distances but the number of workers, which has never been as high,” notes Philippe Depaepe, the CEO of Acerta Brussels-Wallonia.
