Raf Van Puymbroeck is Mister Gay Belgium 2016

The youngster Raf Van Puymbroeck scooped the title Mister Gay Belgium 2016 in Antwerp on Saturday evening. During the next 12 months, he will replace Skelte Willems as the ambassador for the LGBT community, and will also focus upon his position within the sports sphere.

For the fourth year running, the beauty competition has nominated a young man to champion LGBT issues both in Belgium and abroad. The event took place in the Antwerp Theatre Elckerlyck on Saturday evening.

The Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois and his Minister for Equal Opportunities, Liesbeth Homans, both of the New Flemish Alliance, attended as members of the jury. The jury whittled down twelve finalists to nominate the new Mister Gay Belgium.

The winner was Raf Van Puymbroeck, a physical education graduate aged 21. He is also a dance teacher and teaches at the Thomas More Higher Education Polytechnic in Turnhout.

Confident as a result of his recent high profile, he has fresh desire to launch a campaign to invite around 50 sports clubs to sign a charter for the respect of LGBTs.
