Close to 7,000 additional Belgian millionaires in dollars in 2015

The number of Belgians having over one million dollars (880,000 euros), not including the worth of their residence, increased by 6,700 to reach 108,800 (that is, +6.5%) in 2015, as published by the consulting company Capgemini in its 20th report titled "World Wealth Report". Worldwide, the number of millionaires in dollars increased by 4.9%, reaching 15.4 million.

The number of rich persons increased the most in Asia. The increase reached 9.4% in 2015. Brazil registered once again a strong decrease in prosperity, illustrated by a decrease of 8% in the number of millionaires last year. In Europe there was an increase of 4.8%.

Belgium is home to 6,700 new millionaires according to Capgemini. At least 22.3% of the wealth of Belgian millionaires is deposited in retail accounts, which presently generate nothing. “They have possibly become more prudent given the stock problems,” said Robert van der Eijk, of Capgemini of Belgium and Luxembourg.
