SPF Finances helps some 850,000 persons to fill in their tax returns

SPF Finance, the finance section of the Federal Public Service, helped close to 850.000 persons to fill in their tax returns in recent weeks, SPF spokesperson Francis Adyns said on Friday. A total of 849,554 persons had been assisted by SPF Finance staff to fill in their returns by the June 30 deadline for people filing on paper, a 1.5% drop compared to the 862,430 persons assisted by the service last year.
The sessions were held in the SPF’s regional offices and in shopping malls. “The drop in figures confirms that our efforts to make the tax returns as readable as possible through the system of the simplified tax return have been fruitful,” Adyns said. “In this way, taxpayers no longer have to wait for nothing”.

Last year, 2,123,596 taxpayers received a proposed simplified tax return, and this year 2,193, 666 of the simplified forms were sent out. Taxpayers opting to file online via the Tax-on-web site have until July 13 to do so. By Wednesday, 1.8 million persons had already filed electronically. The deadline for those opting to use the services of an accountant or tax preparer is October 27.
