Several radiometers go down at Tihange

Electrabel has been cautioned by the Federal Nuclear Control Agency (AFCN) for the second time in a year. This is due to safety problems at Tihange 3, De Morgen reported on Saturday.

Two incidents, on the 26th and 30th of May, revealed safety problems, AFCN agents have said. Both incidents were caused by staff negligence.

On the 26th of May, a pressure measuring system in the reactor’s cooling circuit was not available. This incident was classified a level 1, an ‘anomaly’.

On the 30th of May, a measuring instrument in the control room was left in ‘test mode’ for several days, which stopped it working.

“Because of several incidents just a few days apart, we felt we had to draw up a pro justitia’, the AFCN spokesman explained. The worst cases could lead to a fine.
