A night-time store on the Grand-Route in Gaurain-Ramecroix (in the Tournai area) was gutted during the night of Sunday/Monday around 3.40 a.m.
A truck hit the gable of the shop and the fire immediately started in the vehicle. Nobody was in the shop and the truck driver fled. An investigation has been opened by the Mons-Tournai Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Tournai police at the scene stated.
The Tournai fire service were informed that the shop “Chez Katty”, a clothes shop which had been transformed into a might-time store, had been the victim of a fire. A truck, which its driver had forced through the protective grill, struck the shop front. Everything points to the fire being started in the vehicle, which caused the building to be set alight.
At 9.00 a.m. today the gutted vehicle was still at the scene and the police were monitoring the premises.
