Optima Bank: the Belgian state’s tab may reach 50 million euros
Optima Bank is on the ropes.

The Belgian state has already spent 39.5 million euros upon 1,199 cheated savers of the Banque Optima, out of the bank's overall total savers numbering around 14,000. This features in De Tijd and L'Echo today (Thursday), and is based upon the FPS Finance's figures.

The overall tab may reach 50.5 million euros if all customers with an account balance of under 100,000 euros call upon the Gurantee Fund for Financial Services.

Only 92 bank customers have the misfortune of having one or more accounts with more than 100,000 euros, the account balance figure above which the Fund does not kick in.

The federal state may recover a chunk of the 50.5 million euros Guarantee Fund by paying compensation to duped clients, if the Optima Bank liquidation process makes it possible to return funds.
