The President of the Senate Christine Defraigne (MR) wants the High Chamber of Parliament to get involved in the Burkini debate. “The Burkini damages feminine liberty”, she said in an interview published in La Libre Belgique on Saturday.
Mrs Defraigne thinks the issue requires “serious reflection”. She doesn’t believe in debate through slogans and public places. She thinks the Senate is the most appropriate place to debate the issue.
Christine Defraigne is the head of the Liberals in the Liège Communal Council. She also stated she would be the MR candidate for Liège during the local elections in 2018.
