Yesterday, at 2 p.m., the temperature reached a scorching 29.6°C in Belgium. This is the highest temperature ever recorded on any September 13th, since Belgian records began in 1901.

The previous record dated back to 1947, being 28.9°C. David Dehenauw of the RMI (Royal Meteorological Institute) indicated this.

At the time of writing this article, (2.40 p.m. on Tuesday) it was thought that the record might yet be improved upon over the following few hours. This was because the official maximum temperature in Uccle had not yet been measured.

Yesterday was also the very day that a temperature of around the 30°C mark had been recorded so late in the year, for nearly a century.

The last time was indeed September 12th, 1919, with a temperature of 30.6°C. This record yet may be beaten today (Wednesday).
