The Red Devils are still second in the FIFA rankings, which have been published today (Thursday). Compared to their August classification, Roberto Martinez’s men have dropped a few points (32) but are holding steady. They have a total of 1369 points, well behind the leaders in this ranking, who are the Argentines (with 1646 points).
Germany (on 1347 points) has gone ahead of Columbia (with 1323 points), placing it in third position, whilst Brazil has now climbed from 9th to 4th place, which it is sharing with Columbia, thanks to its two qualifying victories for the 2018 World cup (played against Columbia and Ecuador).
As 61 qualifying matches have been disputed since the previous ranking on August 11th, the changes are included in the new version of the world rankings.
The Belgian team was beaten in a “friendly” against Spain (0-2), before asserting itself by opening their qualifying camapaign against Cyprus (0-3).
Their next games are anticipated against Bosnia and Herzegovina at home (at the King Baudouin Stadium at home on October 7th) and against Gibraltar (on October 10th in Faro).
In the rankings Bosnia, remains the Devils’ most improved adversary as part of these qualifications for the Russian World Cup. It is 23rd (up six places). Greece is 48th (up four places), Cyprus is 87th (down one place) and Estonia 130th (down 13 places).
Gibraltar, which has only been acknowledged as a team for a few months, has clinched its best position in 205th.
The next FIFA rankings are due to be published on October 20th.
